KwaZulu-Natal Hawks and other law enforcement officials acted on Monday after being tipped off about a truck carrying copper cables.

Provincial Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says it was travelling along the M3.

" They spotted the set truck, and it was stopped. They searched it and they found copper cables to a street value of approximately R848,000. The suspects were immediately placed under arrest, and the truck was seized as it was used in the commission of a crime, and it will be referred to the asset for investigation for further handling."

"The expert parties concerned, Telkom as well as eThekwini, were summoned to the police station, and they positively identified the cables as theirs."

The trio will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
