Three men have been arrested in a R6.9 million drug bust near Richards Bay.
Police were tipped off about suspected dealers transporting bags of heroin from Mozambique towards Empangeni.
KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says members of the Empangeni Task Team spotted the trio on Tuesday, travelling in a bakkie at the eNseleni off-ramp.
"An operation was put in place to act on the information. The vehicle with three occupants was spotted and it was stopped so that a search can be conducted.
"Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered 23 bags of heroin hidden in the bin of the bakkie. Each bag weighed 2kg and the estimated street value of the recovered drugs is R6.9 million.
"The suspects who were foreign nationals, were placed under arrest for being in possession of drugs."
The suspects, aged between 27 and 40, are due to line up in the Empangeni Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
