Third suspect arrested, police hopeful over stolen R17m
Updated | By Kaya FM News
A third suspect believed to be involved in a major burglary at the State Security Agency late last year is expected to appear in court this morning.
He was arrested on Friday after his lawyers handed him over to police. The Hawks have already arrested two suspects for the robbery which took place around Christmas in which R17 million in foreign currency was stolen.
The Hawk's Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi believes the third suspect played a key role in the robbery and may lead the investigators to recovering the stolen money.
"We are trying by all means to make sure that we retrieve some of the money that was stolen. So the guys are on that route, there's a lot of information that is coming through.
"Our own experience as well is leading us to believe we could be able to retrieve some of this money but I'm quite confident with the pace that the case is taking we will have a breakthrough as well in that regard," he said.
