"There's nothing special about Ramaphosa": ANCYL
Updated | By Samkelo Maseko
The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) says even though its respects ANC Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, it would prefer Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to take over as party leader in December.
The Youth League briefed the media at Luthuli House this afternoon following its meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The league says it will campaign for Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza to take over as deputy president of the ANC, and Free State Premier Ace Magashule to succeed Gwede Mantashe as Secretary-General.
The league's president, Collen Maine, says there is nothing special about Ramaphosa.
"There is nothing special about Cyril, ok? Or about any member of the ANC, because the constitution of the ANC says that every member of the organisation, including Cyril and Nkosazana has a right to elect and to be elected to any position. We are guided by that constitutional principle," says Maine.
Maine says they respect Ramaphosa.
"The view of the ANCYL is that Nkosazana must be president now," says Maine.
The league's preferred leadership features ANC members belonging to the so-called premier league and is exactly the same as the one announced by MK Veterans over the weekend.
