Officials say a man who vandalised part of the sub-station there was electrocuted and killed.

Operations manager Suren Muden says they received reports of an outage yesterday:

''At the present moment two switch pillars are isolated and do not have any power supply feeding into the area. However, we are trying to restore part of the supply we may not be able to get all supply back until those switch pillars are replaced,'' he said.

Muden's also given an update on the explosion at the sub-station in Richard Carte Road in Jacobs south of Durban.

Five men working on the sub-station were seriously hurt yesterday when it blew.

Muden believes the fault was not on their side.

''We have an 11 000 volt cable that runs from Mobeni substation that feeds into a substation called metal box. At metal box we have four 11kv there.

''One of those breakers feeds into the company that's residing at the Richards Carte road. On their 11 000 volt, they have individual circuit breakers that feeds transformers and it may be that one of their transformers then exploded,'' he said.
