Tax Season officially kicks off today
Today marks the start of the 2016 'Tax Season' and South Africans are being urged to play their part by honestly declaring their earnings.
SARS is urging taxpayers to submit their returns online via e-filing.
It says to those who are not clear about what's required of them or about the process involved they can always call their call centre and speak to an agent.
The revenue's Mark Kingon says they're expecting a positive response.
Last year's tax season saw a record amount of R1 trilllion collected.
''For the first time we went over the trillion rand, that's a lot, its like a R1000 billion. This year we are hoping to collect R1.175 trillion so it R1 175 billion , it's a huge amount of money but it's for the good of the country that is why we encourage people to do what is right,'' he said.
