Tax returns: Selected offices to open on Saturdays

The taxman is promising tough action against those who fail to file their tax returns.

The revenue service's Sandile Memela says since the start of the 2017 tax season in July, turnout nationally has been low when compared to previous years.
"Failure to submit returns within the set period could result in an administrative penalty being imposed. Secondly, there's possible criminal prosecution that could also result in possible imprisonment or a fine," he says.
He says while the period for manual submissions has closed, some SARS offices will open on weekends to assist taxpayers submit their returns via e-filing.
"We will be extending our office hours to Saturdays between 8am in the morning until 1pm from 30 September until 18 November."
