Task team tackles Ugu District water shortages
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
Local government authorities say a task team has been established to deal with water outages in the Ugu District Municipality.
The cuts are due to a blockage at the Bhobhoyi reservoir.
Yesterday, the municipality dismissed claims of sabotage.
Some areas - including Port Shepstone Umtentweni, Murchison, Marburg and Hibberdene - have been without water for over two weeks.
Local spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela says in the meantime, static tankers have been placed in strategic areas to ensure everyone can be supplied.
"The situation was very abnormal. The task team set up together with engineers from water and sanitation at the Ugu District Municipality are working tirelessly to make sure all our people are reconnected. We do hope that by tomorrow, everyone will be connected to our water provision system," he says.
He says public facilities such as hospitals have been prioritised to minimise disruptions.
A 24 hour call centre, 080 009 2837, and sms line, 44751, have been set up to handle all queries relating to the matter.
