Task team set up to review visas and permits

The Department of Home Affairs has set up a task team to review visas and permits that were issued since 2004.

Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says the team was established because the department's Counter Corruption Unit noticed that permits dominated the cases they were investigating over the years, raising red flags. 


He was speaking yesterday during a media briefing.


Motsoaledi says they are just one step away from obtaining the citizenship of the country.

"Category number 2, corporate visas, especially in the mining sector." 


"Category number 3, Business visas and number 4 professional or what you commonly call critical skills visas. Retired Persons’ Visas, citizenship by neutralisation and lastly, study visas." 


The team is expected to release an interim report in three months.
