KZN police say they're following up on information that an alleged cop killer was connected to a string of murders.
The suspect was killed in a shootout with officers in Durban's Clermont area yesterday.
The police constable and a colleague who were off-duty had gone to visit someone in the area on Sunday night when they were attacked in their vehicle.
SAPS KZN spokesperson Jay Naicker says the officer was killed.
His passenger wasn't harmed but both their service pistols were taken.
"Following an around-the-clock investigation that began after the shooting, police received information that one of the killers was at an informal settlement in Clermont," said KZN police spokesperson Jay Naicker.
