Suspect in Shallcross shooting under police guard

Police are pleading with community members not to take the law into their own hands.

It follows a shooting incident in Chatsworth this morning, in which a shop owner was killed.
It's understood the man was shot dead when he tried to break up an altercation on his business premises.
Another person then tussled with the gunman, in a bid to disarm him. The suspect was shot and wounded in the leg.

Community members then assaulted the gunman.
Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says the suspect is now under police guard in hospital in a critical condition.
"Police have seized two firearms and ammunition, used during the commission of the crime. The SAPS Chatsworth is investigating a case of murder and attempted murder. The investigation continues."
