Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A man who allegedly shot and wounded a policeman during a robbery in Mtubatuba, on the north coast will make his first appearance in court today.
The officer was off-duty in the CBD when he saw a man robbing a woman last month.
Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says the officer confronted the man and became involved in a scuffle with him. The man then ran away.
"The police officer gave chase and the suspect opened fire, wounding the policeman. He was then taken to hospital for medical attention.," said Mbele.
She says a case of attempted murder was then opened for further investigation.
The 30-year-old suspect was later nabbed in KwaMsane Township, where an unlicensed firearm and stolen items were allegedly found in his possession.
