Suspect killed in attempted cash heist near Izingolweni

The shooting occurred on the N2 about 5 kms from Izingolweni, inland of Margate.

Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says a car with four suspects confronted the security guards just before 7am today.

"At gunpoint, they hit the drivers window with a hammer while firing shots at the security guards. One of the security guards sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to hospital for medical attention. The suspects opened a safe but could not find any money. One of the suspects was also shot," she said.

Gwala says the suspect died at the scene.

It's still unclear who shot him while the three other suspects fled the scene.

Netcare911 says the second guard was severely traumatised and taken to hospital.
