The South African Depression and Anxiety Group has given some helpful tips on how Grade 12's can manage examination stress.

Over 193,000 full-time and part-time KZN candidates will be writing their final National Senior Examinations.

SADAG's counsellor, Olwethu Kwaza, says it's important to have enough sleep before your exam, as this will improve the performance of the brain.

"The night before the exams is very daunting, and I think the best thing we can do for ourselves is to get a good night's rest. It is very important that eight to ten hours really does work.

"Because memory sort of integrates during that time when you are sleeping, our brain is doing all the work to join in all the information that we have taken in and by the time you wake up, you are able to process it logically and remember it more clearly as well."

She has also warned pupils to avoid last-minute preparations.

"Avoid cramming before the exam. It doesn’t help it is only going to make you more anxious. Study well before time so that you don't have to cram a couple of chapters in the morning of the exam."
