Forecaster Aslam Sardiwalla says areas along the coast are more likely to experience the windy conditions.

"We have a cold front that is currently moving over the southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal. As a result, strong south westerly winds have already been experienced over Port Edward and Margate. They are now gradually moving northwards along the coast. Expected speeds are in the range of 70kmph to 80kmph winds gusts," he said.

Sardiwalla says while the wind gusts are not too severe, they could cause some damage.

"80kmph wind gusts could cause some damage. Probably not severe damage but there is the possibility that there could be some damage associated [with the wind] especially along the coastline," he said.

The weather service issued a warning for gale force winds from the south coast to Richards Bay earlier. The winds are expected to begin moderating from the south this afternoon.
