Strong police presence for Essence Festival
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Durban Metro Police say all contingency plans are in place to ensure the safety of thousands of people flocking to Durban for the Essence Festival.
The event - which got underway on Tuesday, and will run until Sunday - features a variety of events ranging from health and lifestyle, to music and the arts.
Thousands of people from the rest of Africa and the world are attending the festival at the Durban ICC and Moses Mabhida Stadium, respectively.
Metro's Sbonelo Mchunu says they've joined forces with SAPS to provide effective security for festival-goers.
"We're not expecting any negative incidents. They must trust the eThekwini Municipality. All our law enforcement agencies and our law enforcement infrastructure has been evoked to ensure that we have maximum security during the event," he said.
