Striking Sharks Board workers raise employee safety issues
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Aside from pay, striking workers from the KZN Sharks Board say the issue they're mostly concerned about is the safety of employees.
Mxolisi Cekwana - who's with workers union SALIPSWU - has been speaking ahead of today's memorial service for two Richards Bay staff members.
Five sharks board employees were on a boat that capsized off Newark beach last week.
Richard and Mandlakayise Gumede lost their lives - while two other workers were taken to hospital.
The search for the body of Siyabonga Gabela continues. Cekwana says they'll hold a picket before the memorial.
"One of the stewards - the one that's missing - was raising these issues while serving as a safety committee member," he said.
Meanwhile, the board says negotiations are still underway adding they want to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
