Street ambassadors to boost Durban's security - City Manager
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
Durban's City Manager believes the introduction
of street ambassadors will help boost security in the inner city.

eThekwini Municipality has contracted Ensure Ubuntu, to improve safety, security, and cleanliness as part of the regeneration program.
City Manager Musa Mbhele addressed metro police and street ambassadors from the company today saying the project is a game changer for eThekwini.

Mbhele says the initiative includes armed patrols and a coordinated command centre.
"A lot has been achieved, but a number of things have not gone quite optimally the way we had intended them.
"A caring city is the city that is free of crime. A caring city is the city where all the city residents have an opportunity to maximise the potential economically.
"Socially, and healthwise and all those other aspects that are required for human development."
Mbhele added that legal informal trade should coexist with formal trade without undermining taxpaying traders.
"They are not paying tax and they come, and they display here. When at the end of the day I have to pay VAT, I have to be able to pay employees, I have to be able to pay taxes and for all municipal services.
"Then you no longer have a city that is capable of looking after all people who want to maximise or optimise their potential for development."
