Steenhuisen wants SAHRC to stop EFF's Phoenix march
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has written to the South African Human Rights Commission to try stop a march organised by the EFF from going ahead in Durban.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says the protest, planned for Thursday, is against “racist Indians”.
It follows the killing of 36 people in Phoenix, north of the city, during last month's unrest.

The murders are believed to have been committed by vigilantes and were allegedly racially motivated.
"I have today written to the chairperson of the South African Human Rights Commission, asking him and the human rights commission to intervene in the escalating race-baiting and racial scapegoating that is taking place in KwaZulu-Natal in the wake of the unrest and looting,” says party leader John cn.
"What is evident from the material designed to promote what the EFF calls their so-called “March to Phoenix Against Racist Indians” is that they are hoping to stir up racial tensions and inflame violence between Black and Indian residents.
