Stage 2 blackouts return, expected to extend into weekend
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Eskom says there will be stage 2 load shedding from 11am on Friday.
The embattled power utility is battling to return two generation units to service, and now a third one has tripped.
The utility says it's too early to say whether the scheduled power cuts will leave us in the dark this weekend.
Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says the latest bout of rolling blackouts is due to a delay in returning a unit at Lethabo and Majuba to service.

"A unit at Lethabo and Majuba was delayed in returning to service. A unit at Tutuka tripped. Three Kendal units were taken off and it is anticipated that the fourth and remaining unit will also be shut down.
"The conveyor belts supplying these units are currently not running due to a power fault. No coal is reaching the station at this point.
"We, unfortunately, do expect the load shedding stage to escalate into the weekend as soon as we have a better understanding of when these problems will be resolved."
