Soweto shop shut after ‘poisoned’ snacks land boy in ICU
Updated | By Bulletin
A Soweto spaza shop has been shut after an eight-year-old
boy ended up in ICU after eating suspected contaminated snacks bought from the
outlet.

The City of Johannesburg says the child, Omphile Molobela, bought the maize snack on Saturday and shared it with his siblings at home.
City spokesperson, Virgil James says the boy started vomiting in the middle of the night.
He was rushed to Chiawelo Clinic and later transferred to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

Johannesburg health inspectors were sent to the spaza shop.
"The premises are not compliant in relation to pest control as they do not have a registered pest control company servicing them.
"The person in charge reported not using any illegal pest control methods, and no residues or recent rodent droppings were observed. The premises are currently closed."
