South Africa's COVID-19 death toll climbs by 40

Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize says almost 17 000 people in the country have recovered from the coronavirus.

That translates to a recovery rate of over 51%. 


It’s a statistic we need to bear in mind when studying South Africa’s COVID-19 numbers. 


Mkhize says to date, they’ve confirmed a total of 32 683 cases. 


After more than 725 000 tests, KZN’s registered 2 545 infections, 52 deaths and 1 248 recoveries. 


Nationally, there’ve been 40 more COVID-19 related deaths, taking the death toll up to 683.
