SOPA: Public health was able to cope with COVID-19 infection waves

The Premier has stressed at no point has the public health care system been overwhelmed when dealing with the number of COVID-19 cases.

During his State of the Province Address today, Sihle Zikalala said it was in fact private hospitals that had often reached out to the government looking for more beds.
He says the three field hospitals have made sure there have been enough beds.
On the vaccine roll-out, Zikalala says so far just over 30 000 people have registered to receive the jab. " Most of the healthcare workers have reported a new renewed sense of positivity and feeling protected.
KZN received 10 800 vaccines in the first phase and we vaccinated a total of 7337 health workers at two sites in Albert Luthuli and Prince Mshiyeni Hospital.

On greenhouse emission - the premier says the province is determined to become a leader in transitioning towards a low carbon economy.
He says the next coming year climate change and its effect will be areas of focus where efforts will be intensified.
