SONA has lost its core focus: analyst
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A political analyst feels the annual State of the Nation Address has lost all dignity.
The SONA's due to take place in Parliament on Thursday night.
Opposition parties say they don't want President Jacob Zuma to deliver the address.
Recent SONA speeches have been marred by disruptions, fighting and pandemonium.
Political analyst, Sanusha Naidoo says the evening is no longer an event when South Africans look forward to hearing about the country's performance and plans going forward.

She believes this year's address could be more of the same.
"What has also transpired is that it has become highly securitised in terms of who is let in, who can actually report. The actual SONA has deviated from what its focus is and what its symbolism is to now asking the question for what will the EFF do at this year's SONA," she says.
Meanwhile a special ANC meeting has been convened to take an 11th hour decision on the future of Zuma and the State of the Nation Address.
