Some parts of Durban still without water

The low levels of water in some of Durban's reservoirs mean many taps continued to run dry on Tuesday.

The western parts of the city, including Moseley and Northdene haven't had a drop of water for serval days.

Northdene resident Elaine Pilkington says it's a recurring issue.

"It has been horrendous because of this heat you are using a lot more water. We have to go down and fetch water from the tankers, and I feel sorry for the old people because a lot of them are walking to get water.

"It’s not just sad, it’s carrying these heavy buckets of water, using them to flush toilets, and we are at a point where the area is starting to smell."

Ward 63 councillor Chris van den Berg says the outage is linked to the infrastructure-related work that was carried out at the Durban Heights Water Treatment Plant last week.

"What happened across the city is that during the time the reservoirs when low and where water needs to pump because of the load shedding, it's been making this recovery very difficult. The water levels last night were showing an increase.

“There is a little bit of positive it just now depends on how it does through today with the load shedding, so there is a possibility that there may be able to restore some water part of the day to early tomorrow."
