Some KZN beaches still without nets following strike

Around half of the province's protected beaches still do not have shark nets, meaning it is not safe if you are wanting to go for a swim.

Workers at the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board ended their industrial action yesterday.
During the strike, shark safety gear was removed from some beaches including uMhlanga, Westbrook and Umdloti.

The board's Mike Anderson-Reade about half of around 37 protected beaches are without shark nets.
"My only advice is for people to check with the lifeguards. They will see the bathing banned notices up on the beaches. If uncertain, please check with the lifeguards before going into the water," Anderson-Reade said.
