Some iLembe areas to face tighter water restrictions
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
iLembe District officials say a 50% water reduction will now be imposed on areas in the KwaDukuza and Maphumulo Local Municipalities.
District Mayor Welcome Mdabe says the situation has become worse since the 50% consumption restriction was imposed in June in other areas, because of a diminishing water supply from the Umvoti Water Works.
Mdabe says while new boreholes are being drilled and new water schemes being created, there are still problems with water access in some areas due to their geographic location.
Parts of KwaDukuza, Shakaville and Lindelani aren't getting water because they are on high ground.
The Mayor says they are working speedily to ensure water is delivered to all areas in need.
"We appeal for patience from the communities. We anticipate that by Monday there will be enough water supply due to the drilling of additional boreholes. So contractors are working flat out so that on Monday we test the quality of water in those areas where we found water," he said.
