At the beginning of March, Mayor Patricia de Lille declared the city a disaster area, saying dam levels dropped to a 30% capacity with 105 days left of usable water for the city.

A statement released by the City of Cape Town states that of this, only 20% of water is usable.

The City had implemented level 3B water restrictions since February.

The SA Weather Service has forecast 60% chance of rain today -  along the coastal regions of the Western Cape, and central Cape Town.

Meanwhile, the Department of Water and Sanitation announced that water restrictions in Gauteng have been lifted following recent heavy rains in the area. Along with the Western Cape, KZN is one of the worst affected provinces by the drought crisis.
