Simelane: Healthcare workers not allowed to deny anyone services
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane says she's deeply concerned about reports that some undocumented migrants are being denied access to health facilities.

She's called on the police to act against those who block entry to public hospitals, noting that Addington in Durban's been mentioned in reports.
The MEC says turning patients away, especially during outbreaks of measles and flu, puts everyone at risk.

Simelane says that while she acknowledges the public healthcare system is under pressure, no one should be denied medical care.
"Even healthcare workers are not allowed to deny undocumented immigrants the service, so the public is not allowed to do that, but we are hopeful that working with the police will put an end to this because it needs to stop."
