Severe storm causes widespread damage in Kloof
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Storm damage assessments were underway in Kloof
after Thursday night’s devastating thunderstorm.

Ward councillor Caelee Laing said reports of flooding began in the evening, with many areas, west of Durban, affected.
Laing is the councillor for Kloof, Gillitts, Stockville, Winston Park, Forest Hills, and a portion of Wyebank.
She said the heavy rains caused widespread damage in many communities.
"Kloof, in particular, was hit very hard. There was a lot of flooding on a lot of roads as well, and people were unable to access roads. Eight or nine trees come down in the Kloof area alone. It was absolutely devastating."

Two warnings for heavy showers and thunderstorms were issued for KZN on Thursday.
Laing said the mudslide on Fields Hill also caused havoc for motorists.
"There's a huge volume of water that does come down there. There was also a mudslide coming down. There's a cliff on the one side where there were some rocks as well that did come down," she said.
"They've been working on the barriers in the centre median in the middle that also popped up onto the other lane. So, the M13 was quite badly affected as well."
