Several weather warnings for KZN on Wednesday
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Areas in northern KZN are in the firing line
for possible severe storms on Wednesday.
The SA Weather Service has issued several warnings as a result of the intensification of tropical storm Filipo in the Mozambique Channel.
It's sent out alerts for the province's two inland and two coastal parts.
Forcaster Ayanda Nsele says disruptive rains are expected under the Yellow Level 4 warning in the Zululand district and King Cetshwayo.
She says it might be difficult driving on dirt roads.
The storm poses a threat to infrastructure and mud-based houses.
“We have an Orange Level 6, also for disruptive rain in Umkanyude, Pongola as well as uMhlathuze. We are also expecting significant impact from that so it's different from level four in terms of impact expected. This is because of the tropical storm expecting to move southwards into Maputo and then it will go back to sea."
Nsele says flooding could be triggered under the Level 6 storm warning.
Damaging winds and waves are expected between Richards Bay and Kosi Bay.

“We're expecting wind up to about 65 knots, that will be 110 metres per hour, that is along the coast between Richards Bay going north to Kosi Bay,” says Nsele.
“We are also expecting waves of 4 to 5.5 metres, it might reach 6 metres, especially towards Kosi Bay’s side."
