Premier Willies Mchunu and Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mxolisi Kaunda met with truck operators affected by the unrest last night.

An angry mob torched 23 trucks to voice their anger at foreigners being hired as drivers.

8 people, who allegedly looted the burning vehicles, are facing charges of theft.

Charges against 48 other people arrested in connection with the violence were dropped due to a lack of evidence.

Kaunda says they have received information that more protests have been planned.

"We have also put in place a clear security plan that will ensure we secure not only the Mooi River Toll Plaza. We have heard many rumours that they want to change the spots where they will burn other trucks. We will be suring the entire route," he said.

Officials estimate the cost of the damage during Sunday's protest to be more than R200-million.

Premier Mchunu announced last night that the provincial government will also review the trucking industry and the illegal employment of foreign nationals.
