Sqalo Ntlooa was last seen at the Nsimbini Cato Manor Forest on Sunday.

According to his family, he had been out with his friends to hunt for small prey with dogs.

They say when the group returned the Grade 2 pupil wasn't with them.

Reaction Unit South Africa's Prem Balram spoke to Newswatch from their helicopter, saying multiple officials were also on the ground.

"We are concerned and searching irrespective of the conflicting information that we have received. One of the boys informed us that he was last seen exiting the forest at the local truck shop. A second boy informed us that he had boarded a vehicle, and the third and fourth boys said that they had never exited the forest.

Balram said, at the request of the family, that they are currently searching the forest on foot.

"The aircraft is about to leave the RUSA helipad. The family is really traumatised. They've been very emotional. They definitely are very concerned because it is the first time the child has gone missing."

The child was wearing a blue t-shirt and orange pants.

Cato Manor Police are investigating a missing persons case.
