Search for man linked to officer’s murder

A manhunt is underway for a murder suspect who's believed to have crossed into KwaZulu-Natal from Mpumalanga.

Authorities say Prince Gift Mdluli, linked to the death of a police officer, was last seen in the Midlands.
Lieutenant Colonel Piet Pretorious was killed in Ermelo last month.
The Hawks say Mdluli was last spotted around the areas of Bergville, Howick and Umzimkhulu.

Spokesperson Magonseni Nkosi says the suspect is presumed to be heavily armed.
"The Mpumalanga Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation calls upon the community to assist locate Mr Prince Gift Mdluli who is a suspect in a murder case whereby the commander of Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit in Ermelo, Lieutenant Colonel Piet Pretorius, was fatally shot on Thursday, 16 January 2024.
"The warrant of arrest has been issued against Mdluli. According to information, Mdluli was last in Bergville, Howick, and Umzimkhulu in KwaZulu-Natal."
