Several shacks have burned down at an informal settlement in the KZN Midlands, leaving scores of residents without a roof over their heads.
"I am very angry about this because I don't know who made the fire. I don't know nothing except I don't have a house, clothes and I have the pajamas I am wearing," said an affected resident.
Deputy Mayor of uMngeni Municipality Sandile Mnikathi explained what happened overnight.
"One started off at a place called Emqashweni at about 12 o'clock at night, and the second one started at Estendeni informal settlement at 2 o’clock this morning.

"Both sides were managed to be put out by the Umgungundlovu Fire Department. At the moment, we are not entirely sure what started the two fires.
At least two people have been hurt.
Mnikathi, who was at the scene earlier, says disaster management teams have already begun assessing the damage.
"We are waiting for disaster relief material. We have contacted Gift of the Givers however, at the moment, we got the local community who are busy making breakfast because a lot of the residents lost everything."
