School principal gunned down in uMlazi
uMlazi police are investigating a case of murder after a school principal in the eNgonyameni area was gunned down yesterday in a drive-by shooting.
The 52-year-old man - a school principal at Empumelelweni primary school - was returning from school at the time of the incident.
It's understood he was in his car when suspects fired several shots at him. He died instantly.
The police's Thulani Zwane has appealed for help from members of the public who might have information about the whereabouts of the suspects.
"The suspects fled in their own getaway vehicle. A case of murder was then opened, and the motive of the murder is still unknown at this stage."
The Department of Education has condemned the shooting and pleaded with the police to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested.
The department's Kwazi Mthethwa says they are shocked by the brutal killing.
"We do not want to speculate at this moment. We are going to allow the law enforcement agencies to do their work because it was a drive-by shooting."
No arrests have been made. The investigation continues.
