Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
The South African Weather Service has warned of possible severe thunderstorms for most parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.
It has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning.
Forecaster Thandiwe Gumede says the wet weather is expected from this afternoon.
"Areas like Newcastle, Ladysmith, Nquthu, Msinga including areas like Vryheid, Mooi River as well as Estcourt.
"With the severe thunderstorms that are expected today, we are expecting them to be accompanied by strong damaging winds as well as excessive lightning.
"That does not mean they will be limited to that, the thunderstorm can also be accompanied by rain, which can be heavy in some places."
The warning is being pushed up to Level 4 on Thursday for most parts of the province.
The weather service says severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours and strong damaging winds are forecast, except in the extreme northern areas on KZN.
