SATAWU to meet with Greyhound management following shutdown

SATAWU says retrenching more than 600 people during these tough economic times is not an option.

The transport union says they received Section 189 notices from several bus companies owned by Unitrans Passenger earlier this week.


Yesterday, Greyhound announced it was shutting down its operations in the country.


The luxury liner says it's been battling under difficult trading conditions.

SATAWU's Anele Kiet says they'll be meeting with Greyhound management tomorrow to look for alternative ways. 


Kiet says the KPA Group issued a notice of Section 189 in terms of the regulations act, "We have looked at it but also we will be engaging with the company."

"However, we believe this matter is not only because of COVID-19 as they per the notice that they have issued to us. We strongly believe there is a lasting solution to this problem," he adds.
