SASSA warns of possible payment delays
Updated | By Andile Tsotetsi
The South African Social Security Agency is warning of
possible payment delays for some beneficiaries in May.

The agency says it is conducting a nationwide identity verification and eligibility review.
KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, Sandy Godlwana, says it is aimed at picking up and correcting errors in the system.
She says they will be updating beneficiaries' personal details and confirming any changes to their financial information.

With grant payments scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Godlwana's urged recipients who have been contacted by the agency to visit their nearest SASSA offices.
"There are clients that normally apply at SASSA, and you find they don't have an ID. We use a temporary ID, we use a quad seven number, but it lasts for only three months. Meaning after three months, you do not come back with your ID from Home Affairs, it will then say suspended.
"Basically, we simply just need their ID number. Normally, clients should be informed. We write them letters, but we know what happens. They might not get those letters."
