The sardine run has officially begun, with three nettings already recorded at Port Edward, according to the KZN Sharks Board’s Wayne Harrison.

"First one was approximately 50 crates and then second one 30 crates. The third one they missed and one of the nettings they had , account of 21 sharks in the net of which they successfully released the sharks."
Nets are being filled with sardines in Port Edward on the south coast this morning - the first sighting of the year.

"The surf is around about two and a half meters. It's very difficult conditions for the guys, but absolutely spectacular weather for May, and a perfect place for you to go and view.
"I'd suggest if you can get down to the Port Edward area and further North."
Harrison says there's going to be a lot of activity and very, very good sightings. People are even taking photographs of the sharks breaching with their cameras. That's the place to be.
