SANBS may extend operating hours as more donors needed
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
The SA National Blood Service is looking at keeping its office doors open a little longer from today.
Blood stocks have dropped to critical levels in KZN as well as across the country.
The service's Sifiso Khoza says it has been difficult to run clinics at schools and universities now that exams are underway.
It receives more than 40% of donations from blood drives at these sites.
Khoza says they are appealing especially for universal donors to come forward.

He says the shortage puts people like cancer patients and women who experience difficulties during childbirth at risk.
"It means that doctors will have a hard time trying to get to the blood. All blood is going to be used for the emergency fridges. Any other operation that can be rescheduled is going to have to be rescheduled," he says.
