SAMA and Ntuli to meet over attack on doctors
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
The South African Medical Association says it’s meeting with KZN Premier Thami Ntuli this week to discuss growing concerns over the safety of healthcare workers.

The association says it has noted a disturbing trend of doctors being targeted by criminals.
Last week, a doctor survived a shooting outside Life Westville Hospital in Durban.
SAMA CEO, Dr. Mzulungile Nodikida, says they have written to Police Minister Senzo Mchunu to express their concerns.

He adds that they’ve begun engaging with other provinces to improve safety at healthcare facilities nationwide.
" We are meeting with the premier on Friday. People know that in hospitals, you can't have guns. If there's no armed response when there's something happening in the hospital, which is in a country like ours, where we know that crime is a problem, it is actually a national problem. The guard must be armed.
"There's just no other way about it because if they're not armed, then the people who work in that institution are the target."
