Salga: Load reduction a result of poor maintenance
Updated | By Tamasha Khanyi and Noxolo Miya
The SA Local Government Association believes poor infrastructure maintenance has led to the implementation of load reductions within municipalities.

It comes a day after Electricity Minister Kgosientso Ramokgopa blamed mismanagement at the municipal level for the blackouts.
Salga's Nhlanhla Ngidi says more funding is needed.
"You need to do more aggressive investments on infrastructure that sustains the demand we created by giving people more access to electricity."

Eskom also announced that it began load reductions in several provinces, including KZN, on Tuesday.
"Load reduction is a long-established process Eskom uses in specific areas when there is sufficient electricity available, but a transformer’s integrity is at risk due to overloading, whereas load shedding is used when the national grid is constrained, and there is not sufficient capacity to generate electricity to meet demand," says spokesperson Daphne Mokwena.
