Sadtu reacts to DA complaint
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Sadtu maintains nothing will deter it from its current position to boycott the Annual National Assessments set for December this year.
The teacher union's been reacting to the DA which has laid a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission against the country’s largest teacher union.
The opposition party is accusing Sadtu of having violated the right of South Africa's children to education over the years.
The teacher's union say the ANAs add no real value to education or its members in its current form.
Sadtu's Nomusa Cembi says the DA is more than welcome to complain but they are not infringing on pupil's right to an education.
''We are not taking away a learner's right to basic education. We are still teaching and we are still going to do the normal exams.
''We're just not going to administer the ANAs, but we are still doing our job,'' she said.
The tests had initially been postponed to next year following an agreement between the Basic Education Department and unions.
This changed last week when Minister Angie Motshega announced that the ANAs will go ahead this year.
