The teachers' union says it's hoping to have the matter sorted when it meets with the Education MEC today.

Teachers were last month required to physically pick up their salaries to allow the department to do a head count.

This after some educators were apparently found to not be pitching for work.

Spokesperson for the union, Nomarashiya Caluza says initially 5000 educators did not receive their salaries.

"We still have about 856 educators that remain unpaid. What we have right now is the list of those that have been paid, but we are still very disappointed that the department has not been able to pay all of them," she said.
