Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau has told
Parliament that South Africa has signed a key agreement with the US trade
representative, days before new import tariffs are set to take effect.

The US plans to raise tariffs on most South African exports from 10% to 30% starting in August.
Key minerals like platinum and chrome are excluded.

Minister Tau confirmed the deal during the department’s budget vote in the National Council of Provinces, calling it a key step toward a final trade agreement.
" Our collective work, which includes business, organised labour, and civil society in engaging the US Congress, is also a key lever in our toolkit for our approach to ensuring the continued inclusion of South Africa in the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act. And to respond to the recently proposed US South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act."
