SA now has more than 25 000 active Covid-19 cases

South Africa has recorded over 25 000 active Covid-19 cases, with KwaZulu-Natal the province with the most active infections.

This is according to the latest stats released by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Sunday evening. 

 

KwaZulu-Natal has 5 732 active cases, followed by Gauteng with 4 837 cases and Free State at 4 451. 

 

Mkhize revealed there were 1 778 new cases in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday evening - which brings the total numbers of infections to 1 596 595.

"The number of tests conducted to date is 10 887 709. Of these 26 098 tests were conducted since the last report. 

 

"The cumulative recoveries now stand at 1 516 256, representing a recovery rate of 95%," reads the statement by Mkhize. 

 

A total of 11 new Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing the total number of related fatalities to 54 735.
