SA lifts Brazil poultry import ban
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Poultry imports from Brazil will resume on Thursday. It's after a suspension caused by an outbreak of avian influenza.

Industry experts say the ban cost the country more than 100 million meals per weeK, adding pressure to food prices and food security.
The Association of Meat Importers and Exporters has praised government for its handling of the bird flu outbreak.
The association's Imameleng Mothebe says many South Africans are reeling from the ban.

"The ban on Brazil import poultry had a significant negative impact, not only on the economy broadly, but from the importers themselves to the processors who buy mechanical bond meat from Brazil to use it in processing of Viennas and. Polony for the lower income markets. We are looking forward to a flow of product."
She says it won't be felt immediately as "it takes a few weeks for the product to arrive, but then at least it does bring the much needed relief".
