SA Childcare Association heads to court over lockdown regulations
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
The SA Childcare Association is heading to court on Tuesday to ask for permission to reopen early childhood development centres.
The association's Anton Van Der Merwe says it's not fair that facilities that fall under the Department of Social Development have to remain closed while pre-schools under Basic Education are allowed to reopen.
"The impact of the closure of the pre-schools is terrible in terms of not only the children who cannot get the daycare but also the schools who are not having any income and the staff that are not getting salaries or payment."

Trudi Lowshang, the owner of Happyfeet, a daycare in Durban, says they've been closed for three months with no clear direction from the department.
"It's also been quite an emotional challenge having been shut down in anticipation of opening again on 17 April and not opening because the lockdown was extended.
"I personally have been ready to go back a long time ago. I have done my sanitation, I have done my training, and I have set a date for my staff to be trained."
