Robbery suspect killed in shootout near Ladysmith
Five men have been arrested following an armed robbery at a post office in Ekuvukeni near Ladysmith on Friday morning.
Police who responded to the incident came under fire from a group of robbers.
A shoot out ensued and one of the suspects was killed.
The others aged between 30 and 45 were taken into custody.
"Police recovered three pistols and a large quantity of ammunition from the suspects," says KZN police spokesperson Jay Naicker.
"The vehicle that was used by the suspects was impounded by police for further investigation.
"An undisclosed amount of cash that was stolen during the robbery was recovered by police. The arrested suspects will appear in court next week.
"The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner has applauded the swift response by police in the area."
